BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide — a chain of 15 amino acids — corresponding to a stable fragment of a protein originally identified in gastric juice. It is studied in preclinical models of tissue and vascular biology.

Mechanism overview
In preclinical research, BPC-157 has been associated with the nitric-oxide pathway (Src–caveolin-1–eNOS) and with upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which relate to new blood-vessel formation. Reported activity also includes modulation of growth-factor signaling (ERK1/2, IGF-1) and of inflammatory mediators such as IL-6 and TNF-α. Human evidence remains largely preclinical.
