Mechanism overview
Research characterizes MOTS-c as an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a central regulator of cellular energy balance, with associated effects on non-insulin-dependent glucose uptake in skeletal muscle. Under metabolic stress it has been described translocating to the nucleus and modulating antioxidant-response and inflammatory signaling. Endogenous levels are reported to decline with age.
